Title I program's goal is to provide additional support to strengthen the student's skills so that it positively impacts the child's academic growth.
- Title I is provided by the Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) Title I, Part A, Private Schools Program.
- The Reading and/or Math program used by the designated LAUSD teacher is designed to supplement the reading and/or math that takes place in the classroom. Consistent with Section 1115(c) of the Title 1 statue, LAUSD provides a Title 1 program to private school children, employing methods and instructional strategies for improving academic achievement that have been shown to be effective through scientifically based research.
- Qualified students has the opportunity to have an experienced, highly trained Reading and/or Math specialist come onsite during the day and/or after school to work with small groups of students, divided by grade, to improve their decoding, fluency, and reading comprehension skills
- Eligible students are selected based on classroom and/or standardized assessments and a screening assessment conducted by the Title 1 teacher. This process does not identify the child as “special needs.” It is a year to year assessment that offers them additional academic support if the need is indicated – FREE of charge and with a highly trained reading specialist who comes on-site during the week.
- Parents have a right at any time during the school year to refuse Title 1, Part A services.
